The main objective of the project is to advance in the understanding of environmental risk assessment of oil diffuse sources in harbour areas. The specific goals of the project are:

  1. To improve the tools to estimate the potential affected area of oil diffuse sources by implementing approaches based on: (i) the use of geographic information systems; and, (ii) the development of oil transport probabilistic models.
  2. To design quantitative methods to estimate the magnitude of impact generated by oil spills at harbour areas.
  3. To validate developed tools by analysing the real effect on biological communities potentially affected.
  4. To perform a first approach to assess the environmental risk of diffuse pollution in marinas and fishing ports.
